Zone BBS System Issues

Hi all. I was trying to seek a friend by typin in an ID. However, I pressed the wrong digit. What popped up astonished me beyond all possible proportions. Appearently, some bots or other are hacking the system. Is it possible to log in during the year 1969? Hell no. Look at ID 2177 and you'll see the issues here.

Yep, I do see it. But what's the big deal? So it's a flaw with one user profile, and doesn't seem to be hurting anything else. I'm actually kind of amused.

I was too. But check 2144 as well, same issue. Now I have a question about the weather. If it is tracking via IP, is it going by the ISP's IP or my external IP? It keeps tracing to New Light, VA. So I typed in my ZIP code, and it gives me Landtown, VA. And I know my ZIP backwards and forwards, and I know I live in Virginia Beach. As for the two other cities, I have no idea where they are in relation to me.

The weather may use the nearest airport or observatory on some weather net.

your external IP may not be static. In other words, your internet provider could randomly assign you a different IP address. Most home ISP's are this way.,

It guesses at the location of your IP, but is not completely accurate. As for the profiles, that happens when a user has not logged in. We've had an issue with bots creating accounts. It harms nothing.

Cool. Just thought I'd put it to the attention of the people here. Got annoying, sorry about that.

Chris, I don't find it annoying; in fact, I just went to one of those profiles and wow.
I'm just interested, how can bots create accounts and set their own year especially when you have to varify accounts I thought.

Probably a system tap, which allows them to gain access to the profile disply stuff. In theory, they hack in with some form of code which let's them set bad dates, and possibly validate their account without needing to email. And the captcha is probably what leaves the door open, as it is very simple. The same one every time.

Perhaps this site is going to eventually have to go down the path of captures, but not those hard-to-understand audio ones; heck no Lol .. perhaps what only a few websites in my experience have adopted, and that is a maths question or something. :)

But it's the same question every time.

Several programming languages use the date 1.1.1970 or 31.12.1969 as a base date; I refer especially to java. I'm not sure about other languages, but I think that python also does it. I can't be completely sure, but it seems like a typical base year. Thus, when no log-in has happened, it defaults to time 0, which will most likely be one of these dates.

ah thanks Synth101; makes sense. :)

Thanks, lord Synthesizer. It does truly make sense now.
